Amerstate University visits Ahn Taekwondo

On Saturday, July 11th, Ahn Taekwondo was visited by the representatives of Amerstate University or Racine, WI. The purpose of the visit was to present information concerning the Masters of Science program in Martial Arts offered by the university. The keynote speaker from Amerstate was Grandmaster Jason Cho, President of the university.

Amerstate University offers the first graduate school program in Martial Arts Science in the U.S. The curriculum is traditional in structure -- addressing all of the physiucal and mental skills required of martial arts study. However, it is also innovative in its approach -- requiring study in marketing, teaching, accounting, and business management.

Students have the opportunity to consider attending classes at the main campus in Racine, WI. Or, they can take classes through the distance learning option which requires that the student periodically visit the main campus for testing while completing the curriculum locally.

This Masters of Science program provides the serious martial artist iwth the opportunity to earn an accredited degree in addition to martial arts rank in his or her discipline. Students from all styles (Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Karate, etc) are eligible for consideration for the program. The program is currently approved by the state of Wisconsin. The University is working to secure approval from the U.S. Department of Education.

Ahn Black Belt Society Visits Ronald McDonald House

It's important to remember that there is more to the physical training that accompanies the responsibility of holding the rank of Black Belt. With the busy schedules that we face on a daily basis, it is very easy to set aside some of the intangibles that make the art of Taekwondo a key part of our lives. These intangibles are service to one's family, service to one's community, and good citizenship.

The Ahn Black Belt Society, part of the Ahn Taekwnodo Institute of Cincinnati, OH, is making a point to serve the community. On June 6th, members of the Black Belt Society made a trip to the Ronald McDonald House, which is affiliated with the Children's Hospital of Cincinnati. The goal was to make a difference in the lives f the children and families who were staying at the facility.

The Black Belt Society performed a demonstration for the staff and guests, which included forms, self-defense techniques, Olympic-style sparring, and breaking. As usual, the highlight of the demonstration was breaking -- culminating with Master Chuck Beyersdoerfer breaking concrete blocks with a hand technique.

It was only one hour of time spent to brighten the lives of the children and their families who are facing difficulties that we can not imagine. But, the feeling of satisfaction that comes from helping someone is what makes it all worthwhile.
